You read some of the information on this webpage and decided that you like what we do and that you want to get involved - great! Here is some additional information.
General Information
We are a theoretical group. While we work closely with experimentalists, we do not perform any lab experiments ourselves. Our approach is based on mathematics and computer simulations. Most of our work requires solid mathematical and computational skills. Most mathematical projects involve the design and analysis of differential equations. Some computational projects do not require any math above algebra, for these projects you should have some experience with writing computer programs. Occasionally, there might be short-term undergraduate projects that do not require any math or programming but would instead involve literature search and review, or similar tasks.
Opportunities for Postdocs
I am currenty not actively recruiting. But I am always interested to hear from qualified candidates. Positions often come available without much warning (i.e. whenever grants get funded). So if you are close to finishing your PhD and you are interested in the work we do, don't hesitate to contact me. Also contact me if you are interested in joining the group and you can bring our own funding, or you want to develop a proposal for funding based on possible work in my group. Finally, I am open to joint Postdoc arrangements between my group and others, for instance colleagues from CEESG or any other group. For instance if you are interested in doing a mix of theory and experiments, we could likely find something that works.
Opportunities for Graduate Students
I am interested in taking on students to do their thesis research with me. I have ideas for projects (see the list below), and I'm also open to new ideas, as long as they fall broadly into the area of infectious disease modeling. If you are interested, email me.
Note: I am currently close to full capacity - but if you are interested, contact me and we can discuss if there are ways you can get involved.
Also check out opportunities for external funding, and if you want to write a proposal with me as mentor, please contact me and we can discuss possible projects.
Opportunities for Undergraduate Students
Several projects that are suited for undergraduates are available. If you like maths and/or programming and want to apply it to infectious disease research, contact me.
External funding Opportunities
If I don't have funding available but you still want to join our group, there are many sources of funding available. It is of course not easy to get any of the good fellowships or awards, but if you do, it will look very good on your CV. It also gives you more flexibility and security. I compiled a list of external funding sources for students and postdocs. This list is by no means complete, if you know of any good sources I omitted, please let me know.Athens Information
